SYNOPSIS
Two servants — an Italian Zanni and a Hungarian Zagna — meet by chance, hungry, sleepy, and full of life.
From this first chaotic encounter, a world of intrigue unfolds: young lovers struggle for freedom, a miserly father clings to his fortune, a pompous doctor rants in incomprehensible Latin, a jealous stepmother flirts dangerously with a mysterious foreign captain, and even Death herself steps onto the stage to claim her due.
In this carnival of contradictions, everything becomes possible:
love turns into sleep, desire into misunderstanding, jealousy into duel, tragedy into laughter.
Through masks, rhythm, song, physical comedy, poetic monologue, pantomime, and slapstick combat, the two actors bring to life more than ten characters — men, women, nobles, servants, foreigners, ghosts — in a whirlwind of transformations.
A Szerelem Veszélyes üzem is a journey through the timeless archetypes of the Commedia dell'Arte, blending Italian, Hungarian, and fragments of Portuguese into a physical and multilingual theatrical language.
A playful reflection on love, hunger, and human folly — told with the body, the mask, and the rhythm of laughter.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES
The show was born in 2006 at the request of a theatre in southern Portugal, produced in collaboration with the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.
The challenge was to introduce Commedia dell'Arte by fully embracing its international nature.
Thus, the project became a bilingual performance, interpreted by a Portuguese actress (Célia Martins) and myself.
The limitation of having only two actors — imposed by the production — did not frighten me; on the contrary, it provided exactly what I needed to activate the creative process: an obstacle to overcome.
The challenge became to create a bilingual Commedia dell'Arte performance with two actors and ten characters.
I built the direction using pyrotechnic shows as a reference model: long, expanded initial scenes, focused on the actor's virtuosity in "animating" the mask and the character; and as the show unfolds, the character changes become increasingly rapid and dynamic.
The editing techniques and the succession of entrances create the illusion of a crowded stage — to the audience's delight.
After a long tour in Portugal, the show was also invited to the United States.
In 2008, the Celebration Barn Theater in Maine produced it as the first show under the new artistic direction of Amanda Houtari, also on stage alongside me.
In the US, under the title "The Exhausting Affairs of Love", the show received great acclaim from both critics and the public.
Now it is time for the Hungarian version.
The choice naturally fell on the actress Dorottya Bíró, formerly my student in Budapest, whose talent, physical precision, scenic sensitivity, and comic instinct make her the ideal partner to give new life to this international project in its Italian–Hungarian form.

"Lo Spettacolo" è Commedia dell'Arte, fenomeno storico che provocò un'importante rivoluzione nella storia del teatro occidentale, fondando il professionismo. 

Si tratta della storia di una Zagna inglese che incontra uno Zanni veneto, entrambi disperati per la fame. Lui è viaggiatore con il suo capitano, lei è serva di un padrone tanto innamorato quanto incapace di palesare il suo amore, da questo cominciano tutti gli equivoci che danno vita alla loro storia. Pantalone, padre di Isabella, scontrandosi con il Dottore, padre di Flavio, trova il modo di ostacolare il matrimonio scatenando la disperazione dei giovani innamorati, Brighella gioca pericolosamente con la Morte, il Capitano seduce la Signora ma viene scoperto dal di lei marito, e molto altro ancora.

La spettacolarità dell'intreccio di Commedia dell'Arte è accresciuta dal fatto che solo due attori danno vita a più di dieci personaggi. Preparatevi allo stupore e alle risate! 

Lo Spettacolo ha debuttato nella Versione portoghese con il titolo "Morto de fame e sono, pleno d'amor", con Fabrizio Paladin e Celia Martins al Cine-Teatro Louletano (Loulé, Portugal).
28 Ottobre 2006 e poi replicato in Faro, Quarteira, Alte e Portimao.

Nella versione americana con il titolo "The exhausting Affaires of Love" con Fabrizio Paladin e Amanda Houtari all'Oddfellow Theatre (Buckfield Maine USA) e poi replicato al The Celebration Barn Teater (South Paris Maine USA) nel 2007.

Note di regia 

Lo Spettacolo nasce dietro richiesta di un teatro del sud del Portogallo, prodotto in collaborazione con il Ministero della Cultura portoghese. La sfida era quella di fare conoscere la Commedia dell'Arte sfruttando appieno il carattere di internazionalità che questo genere teatrale offre. Si è trattato quindi di proporre uno spettacolo bilingue, interpretato da un'attrice portoghese , e colui che scrive.
La limitazione a soli due attori imposta dalla produzione, lungi dallo spaventarmi, mi ha fornito ciò di cui ho bisogno per sfruttare al meglio degli strumenti della creatività: un ostacolo da superare. Quindi la sfida è diventata fare uno spettacolo bilingue di Commedia dell'Arte a due attori e dieci personaggi.

Ho costruito la regia usando come modello di riferimento gli spettacoli pirotecnici. Le prime scene molto lunge e dilatate, giocate sul virtusismo d'attore nel "muovere" il personaggio. Man mano che lo show si svolge i cambi di personaggio diventano sempre più serrati e incalzanti, e così le scene. Le tecniche di montaggio utilizzate e il susseguirsi delle apparizioni dei personaggi, come se fosse trasformismo, crea l'effetto di una folla in palco con infinito godimento del pubblico.

Dopo il primo lungo tour in Portogallo Lo Spettacolo è stato anche richiesto in USA. Nel 2008 il teatro "The Celebration Barn", nel Maine, lo produce come primo spettacolo della nuova direzione artistica di Amanda Houtari, anche attrice al mio fianco. Anche negli States lo Spettacolo, con il titolo "Lo Spettacolo, The Exhausting Affaires of Love", riscuote grande successo di critica e pubblico.

La nuova versione vedrà come protagonista Tone, una giovane attrice che ha brillato in uno dei miei corsi a Oslo, non potevo che proporle questa avventura!
